Year 11 Food Tech Video

A tasty tuna melt pizza baguette was on the menu during a recent Year 11 food tech session. The students are now at the stage of their learning where complete independence is almost possible. The idea is to prepare the pupils for life after Lansdowne School and to feel confident within a kitchen environment.

Each session starts with an ingredient list and a recipe being presented to the pupils. We expect the class members to work independently to find their own ingredients in the kitchen, and then to follow the recipe instructions.

Guidance is given to the pupils about some of the food preparation techniques. One skill that we needed to prepare the pizza was to be able to dice the vegetables. It was explained by Miss Jarrett that this means cutting up the pieces as small as possible. This will help them to cook quicker.

You can follow the success of the recent Year 11 food tech session in the video above.
