The Year 11 Lansdowne School Leaver’s Assembly for 2015 was another emotional, joyful and at times incredibly funny occasion in our school year. It is always one of the toughest times in the school calendar. Everyone in our close school community of learners is sad to be saying farewell to the Year 11 students. We feel that they are now ready though to move on to the next stage in their life learning.
A strong theme for the 2015 Leaver’s Assembly was that it was student led. This was the chance for the young adults to discuss together what they would like to see take place during their special assembly, and then to work together on how to make this happen.
We welcomed our guests to the assembly with some fantastic keyboard and drumming accompaniment from a couple of skilled Year 11 musicians. It was great to see so many parents and carers being able to come along and support the students during their final major event as Lansdowne pupils.
The students this year were keen to put across their own Lansdowne stories. Each class member then addressed the assembly with an articulate speech about their key memories from Lansdowne School.
We heard stories about how some of the pupils first felt when they arrived as Year 7 students five years ago. Some of the students described how different Lansdowne was form their Primary schools, but they were soon helped to settle in and feel part of our community.
Other students spoke about their future plans. It was fantastic to listen to the optimism and aspirations that the pupils are leaving us with. The career ambitions cover everything from being a top class chef to becoming a Formula 1 racer!
Some of the personal stories being told were incredibly moving. The students spoke with great clarity about who they will miss, and how the teaching staff have helped them to develop into the fine young adults that are now leaving Lansdowne School.
It was then time for the teaching staff to share their memories. One by one, each pupil was invited to the front of the assembly as a staff member gave an honest appraisal of their time spent as Lansdowne students. Some fantastic stories were told about the memories that we have all shared at Lansdowne. Most of these stories were highly amusing, although a few emotional memories were also shared.
A brilliant ICT presentation was then shared. This showed some photographs of all of the Leaver’s throughout their time as Lansdowne students. The presentation was put together by Year 11 pupil Kingsley. It showcased his expertise ICT skills, something which he is also active in during his spare time.
And finally it was time for Executive Head Teacher Mrs. Adams to address the Leaver’s Assembly.
Mrs. Adams said:
“It has been a pleasure to have you all as students. There has been many ups and downs, but we are incredibly proud of what you have all achieved.
I would like to praise you all for the individual talent that has shone through. This was evident in the assembly that we have just enjoyed.
You all have a bright and wonderful future ahead of you. We will all miss you at Lansdowne School.”
The assembly came to a close with a most unexpected dance from Miss McNie. This was well received and sent everyone home with a massive smile on their face.
Farewell Year 11 – please don’t forget us. We certainly won’t forget you.
