Year 9 have been showing great maturity at the start of the new term with their approach to guided reading. Each week we ask every class member to choose three books from the Lansdowne library. This is a free choice with many different book genres being available to choose.
Plenty of one-on-one reading then takes place during the daily Year 9 tutorial sessions. We also ask parents and carers to continue with this reading at home. Each class member has their own reading diary. It really does make a massive difference in the reading levels if as little as five or ten minutes is spent each evening reading with an adult.
We invite parents and carers to add a brief comment in the reading diary. This can be praise if the reading is excellent, or even suggestions about words or passages that might have been difficult to read.
