We are incredibly proud at Lansdowne School with the working relationship that we have established with the nearby Brixton Food Bank. This is a valuable local volunteer service. Local people in need of food and support are able to visit the Food Bank in times of need.
The Lansdowne School Council decided to help out by organising a Wear Your Own Clothes Day just before the half term break. Each pupil paid £1 for the privilege of not wearing school uniform for the day. Over £50 was raised from this activity.
Head Girl Lucy and Head Boy Pedro then went on a fact finding trip to the Brixton Food Bank with Mr Jukes. They learnt how strong bags are also needed, as well as the food. These are then used to distribute some of the items to people in need over the winter months.
It was decided that Lansdowne School would use our financial contribution to help buy some supermarket Bags for Life. Lucy and Pedro went to some of the local supermarkets with staff members to buy the bags.
The Brixton Food Bank volunteers were incredibly grateful for our support. They gave Lucy and Pedro a tour around the building at St Paul’s at the nearby Ferndale Road. The students then reported back to the other pupils about their visit.
