Guided Reading in Year 12 at Lansdowne School has seen the students reading First News, the weekly newspaper that is aimed specifically at a young audience. The pupils showed a particular interest in a recent story that looked at Christmas foods from around the world.
A worksheet was then completed by the students. We were able to see the different meal choices that are made on Christmas Day in countries such as the UK, Eastern Europe, Australia and Japan.
We are very proud of the global backgrounds that many of our students are able to bring to Lansdowne School. This work led to a class discussion with the pupils explaining a little more about their own Christmas traditions and cultures.
A news quiz completed the guided reading, with First News being used as the main resource. Questions about specific stories were asked. The students were asked to explain some of the main points in each story.
