News Songs in the Singing and Signing Assembly

Mr Jukes introduced a recent assembly by asking the pupils if they knew where the Year 11 students were? One of the younger pupils answered that it was Work Experience Week for Year 11.

We are proud of the partnerships that we are making with local businesses. Placements for the Year 11 pupils have been arranged in our community.

Students will be learning about the world of work at many local locations. These include the Premier Inn at Brixton and Waterloo, the Oasis charity shop in Wandsworth, Brixton Recreation Centre, Streatham Ice and Leisure Centre, the British Heart Foundation, Halfords, South Lambeth Library and the Green Shoots Nursery.

The aim is to develop life skills, and to think ahead about possible careers. The students will be sharing their work experience thoughts during a future assembly.

The Lansdowne School Choir then led the way with a couple of songs. Somewhere Over the Rainbow is a school favourite. This was followed by The Lion Sleeps Tonight – a new song that the Choir has been learning.

Mr Jukes recognised the outstanding work that has been carried out with the Star Pupil certificates. These offer praise for traditional subjects, plus areas such as swimming, music and after school clubs.

Class 11NE was presented with the Star Class of the Week trophy. An impressive 90% of ticks was achieved throughout the past week.

The assembly came to a close with the whole school singing Happy Birthday to Year 10 student Kane.
