Year 12 are continuing with their ceramics study of the Mimbres culture. We have been looking at the techniques that this ancient civilisation used to create their pots.
The students have recently started work on creating some large mimbres bowl. Our work started with the clay being rolled out flat. Art teacher Miss Jordan explained the importance of keeping the clay the same thickness throughout.
The next step was to make the mould. Our flattened clay was carefully placed inside an existing bowl. This was then trimmed around the top.
The bowl was then removed from the mould and laid out to dry so that it is leather hard. The next stage is to paint the bowl with a white slip. The final task will be to add in the Mimbres style designs that we have created using a black slip.
