Year 7 are enjoying that class new class book The Diary of a Wimpy Kid. Our early reading has seen the main characters being introduced and some of the plot starting to form.
We usually start our English lessons with a class conversation about the book and what we know so far. The pupils are also asked to identify some of the key features that make up a book. They should all now be familiar with terms such as blurb, spine, author, back cover and barcode.
Some independent reading then took place. Each pupil also got the chance for some one-on-one reading with a member of staff. The students were asked questions about the Wimpey Kid as they progressed with their reading.
Table work was competed by each pupil. A comprehension exercise was set. This involved the pupils answering questions about the characters and plot in complete sentences.
