Year 9 have started a challenging ICT topic learning about databases. We started our learning by watching a short video. This explained what a database is and why they are useful.
New ICT vocabulary was introduced: columns, fields and data. Year 9 came up with some definitions for these terms. We agreed that data means information held on a computer. We agreed that databases are important as they allow us to organise data.
Our practical learning involved entering some information into a database. The theme was mini-beasts and their habitats. Each pupil read an online information sheet about different mini-beasts. We then entered information into the database about the characteristics of each mini-beast.
The next stage will be to sort this data. Year 9 will be seeing how a database can help us to find information quickly once it has been entered correctly.
