Year 10 Continue Science Materials Topic

Year 10 have returned after the Easter break keen to continue with their science Entry Level assessments. We spent the first session of the summer term reflecting on the knowledge that has been taught earlier in the year.

This unit is based around materials. The students have been learning about where we can find metals and how we extract them.

Science teacher Miss McNie has encouraged the students to use references that they can relate to. One example was a bumper car situation to describe how carbon takes away the oxygen to leave an iron compound.

New vocabulary has been introduced with Year 10 understanding what is meant by an alloy. Each class member has completed a worksheet involving missing words to be filled in to create sentences about this process.

The next science topic for Year 10 will be to research the properties of plastics. This is a very newsworthy area that we will be able to relate to our own everyday way of life.
