All Year 12 students took part in a successful Dragon’s Den project and pitching session during the final week of the summer term. This event was organised by Miss McNie with the help of the Serious About Youth local organisation.
The sessions lasted for three days. It had the aims of building interpersonal skills, teamwork and encouraging enterprise skills.
The session started with some team building skills. Members of each group had to work together to build a bridge using newspaper.
This then led to the main session of delivering a project or a service. We had some very unique ideas! These included:
an eco car wash
a holiday project
a computer animal racing game
food tours promoting British food and
a whizz board to help transport everyone around.
The students were given coaching on how to improve their presentation skills before the final pitches. Each team member was allocated a set role during the presentation.
The final session was the Dragon’s Den pitches. A professional team of investors was welcomed to our school. These included a recruitment consultant, an engineer and a tech industry professional. A fictional budget of £50,000 was available to be invested.
Each team was questioned by the Dragons after their presentation. Feedback was given about the products and the presentations.
We are happy to announce that the winning team was the Whizz Board designers. We would like to thank the visitors who came to our school. We are hopeful of repeating this session in the future.
