Jazz Orchestra Collaboration with Year 9 and 10 Students

We were pleased to welcome three members of the Old Fountain Jazz Orchestra to our school. The Year 9 and Year 10 students have been learning about the instruments in an orchestra. This was the perfect opportunity to learn more about the brass section.

The sessions started with the orchestra members talking about their instruments. The students were able to explore trumpets, trombones, the euphonium, an electric keyboard and the Scottish harp.

A performance then took place by the members of the Orchestra. This led to a worksop. The Lansdowne students were asked to think about some of the words we associate with autumn and winter.

A collaboration took place. The orchestra members played their instruments and the Lansdowne students added the percussion. Our original piece of music has an autumn and winter rhythm feel.

We would like to thank the members of the Old Fountain Jazz Orchestra for kindly giving up their time to help with our learning.

Meanwhile a couple of the Year 13 students have been taking part in a new DJ After School Club. This has been made possible by our friends from the Groove School. This is an organisation that helps students with their creativity based around the curriculum.

The Lansdowne students have been introduced to various pieces of equipment. These include drum machines, DJ turntables and a synthesiser. We are working towards a live performance to show the skills that are being taught.
