Year 8 Religious Research on Christianity

Humanities learning in Year 8 is continuing with a study of the major world religions. Our current focus is on Christianity. Our first session back for the spring term involved a recap of some of the information we already know.

The pupils have been looking at some of the symbols used by Christians. They were able to identify that a dove is the symbol of peace and hope, the cross represents the sacrifice made by Jesus, and a candle symbolises the spirit of Jesus.

Some table work followed. Year 8 were asked to complete a sentence worksheet about Christian symbolism. We also completed a sorting activity. The students matched up Christian symbols with the correct definition.

Future work will involve looking at the different parts of the Bible, thinking about who wrote the Bible and a look at the Creation story. We will then move on to study other major world religions including Islam and Judaism.
