Current English learning is Year 9 is looking at identifying different sentence types. The pupils have considered statements, questions and commands.
A short piece of text explaining the life and work of Jane Goodhall was shared. The students were asked to identify statements, questions and commands in the passage.
We then gave our own examples. The students wrote an example of each sentence type in their English books.
Other English learning in Year 9 has involved the students looking at news stories. We have focussed on how this style of writing differs to fiction stories.
Minutes of a recent School Council meeting were used as a starting point. Each class member then wrote an account of the meeting based on the information found in the minutes.
