Year 9 Drama Video

The Year 9 students have produced some thoughtful work based on our current class book, Of Mice and Men by John Steinbeck. This can be a challenging piece of text that contains some ideas that the students may not be familiar with.

We approached this work by first watching some clips of the film. A class discussion then took place about some of the ideas, so that each pupil was familiar with the text that we would then be looking at in great detail.

The Year 9 students have been reading Of Mice and Men together as a group. Each session involves all class members taking it in turns to read a passage. Plenty of questions are asked by the teaching staff whenever the plot changes. Understanding the motivations of the main characters is key here.

The students have also been acting out some of the scenes from the book as we progress through each passage. Written work has also been completed. The pupils have researched the Great Depression period in 1930s America. A comprehension exercise has been completed, as well as predicting what might happen next in the story.
