Year 11 Inter Faith Assembly

The Year 11 students at Lansdowne School recently staged a very thoughtful assembly themed around Inter Faith Week. This is a special period where different world religions come together to share their similarities and look at ways of working together.

The Year 11 pupils have been researching this topic as part of their daily class tutorial time. Our assembly explained how the major world religions have more in common, with very few differences.

Each class member shared some of the research that they have carried out. Ideas discussed included what it means to be respectful, tolerant and have a culture of peace. Some wonderful examples of confident public speaking were on show during the assembly.

Year 11 concluded their assembly by showing our friends from around the school a couple of videos. One of these explained how Christian and Muslim groups in the UK have recently been working together to help the people in the north of England affected by the recent floods.

Miss H then asked the Lansdowne School Choir to lead from the front with a couple of songs. The weekly Choir rehearsals continue at Lansdowne School. Enthusiastic performances of Somewhere Over the Rainbow and Waving Flag followed.

Mr. Jukes then presented the certificates for the Star Performers of the Week. As well as the traditional academic subjects, high achievers were rewarded in areas such as horse riding, swimming, gardening and the popular Dance Club.

Class 7JO was presented with the Star Class of the Week trophy. This was in recognition of achieving the highest number of ticks in the school throughout the past week of teaching.

Executive Head Teacher Mrs Adams then concluded the assembly by praising the Year 11 students for their thoughtful work. The message was passed on that tolerance at Lansdowne School is key for us all working together and achieving.

This led to a discussion about how tolerance in our school can help us all to remain safe at Lansdowne School. Mrs Adams has asked all pupils to design a poster during tutorial time that explains the message of what it means to be safe whilst at school.

This is a theme that the School Council will also explore. Mrs Adams asked for class members to pass on suggestions to the School Councillors about future ideas to help our school remain a happy and safe place for everyone.
