The first Singing and Signing assembly of the new spring term at Lansdowne School was another enthusiastic gathering. Miss O’Leary welcomed back the students after the Christmas break.

The School Choir was keen to continue with the fine singing and signing work following on from last term. The Choir led the way through lively renditions of Imagine, Stand By Me, and Waving Flag – always a favourite with the students.

Individual Choir members volunteered to lead from the front. It was great to see the new Year 7 students learning the words and signs for the songs and joining in.

Mr. Hilton then addressed the assembly, praising the pupils for some of the early work that has already been completed during the first few days of teaching. The tick sheets for the first week of teaching have shown incredibly high standards of behaviour and learning achievements.

The Year 8 pupils performed well with 83% of their ticks; Year 9 managed a very impressive 86%. The winners of the Star Class of the Week however was Class 10DL, who dropped only a single tick during the entire week. The reward is some free time in the school ICT suite.

Individual certificates of achievement were then handed out across all subject areas. Each pupil that received a certificate is also given a gold token to spend in the Lansdowne tuck shop.

The assembly came to a close with a singing of Happy Birthday to Kumar and Thomas.
