Year 9 London Poems

Year 9

Year 9 have been writing some uplifting poems all about London. We started off our work by considering in great detail the work of William Blake and his London poem. We came to the conclusion that although this is a wonderful piece of poetry, it is also slightly sad in the style. We presented the challenge to Year 9 to write a poem celebrating the London that they love.

We set only one condition – the first letter of each line should spell out the word London. We wanted Year 9 to draw upon their own experiences and to describe to the listeners why they love living in the city so much. Once these were composed, we typed them out in the school ICT suite, and then sourced some suitable London themed pictures to present alongside our work. You can listen to couple of Year 9 pupils reading out their poems in the podcast below.
