Our new humanities topic in Year 9 is the tropical rainforest. We have started this work by identifying where we can find the rainforest on a map. We were then able to consider how the climate might be different to the weather that we experience in the UK. The pupils have been learning how hot, humid conditions characterise the rainforest, as well as plenty of rain.
Our early research has also looked at how this environment is ideal for certain types of animals. The students have also looked at the wider picture of why the rainforest is important for us all in helping to create oxygen for the planet. You can listen to some of the early thoughts from a couple of our Year 9 pupils in the podcast below.
