Y9 Acrostic Poetry

Year 9

Year 9 have been learning about acrostic poems during our English learning for the summer term. This is a form of writing where the first letter in a chosen word also starts off each line on the poem.

We have been talking about how acrostic poems can be a powerful piece of poetry to help capture a particular theme. This is also a great exercise in expanding the vocabulary of the pupils as it encourages us to think about new words.

The starting point for our first poems was our own names. We then advanced this to a seasonal theme with acrostic poems being written about using the words summer and Holiday.
