Year 7 Music Video

Year 7 have made some fantastic progress as part of our music learning during the autumn term at Lansdowne School. This is the first time that some of the students have been reading and writing musical scores.

Our recent work has been based on being able to recognise and form a musical rhythm. Miss Shelton has helped to explain and identify breves, minims and crotchets. The Year 7 pupils have been using the musical notes of C, D and E to help pitch their rhythm.

A recent challenge involved composing two bars of music. Each bar required four beats. The pupils were able to choose which type of musical note they would like to use in order to make a total of four beats.

We then advanced this learning to see how musical notes and rhythm are used in other songs. We worked together as a class to clap out the beat for the song I Love Bubble Gum.

The final stage of this learning was the playing of the song on the Lansdowne keyboards. This required the students to be able to recognise the beats in each bar, as well as adding in the correct pitch using C, D and E.
