Year 10 have been continuing their musical work looking at many different instruments that we find in the various musical families contained in an orchestra. A warm up activity involved brainstorming as many instruments as we could within each musical family.
The students then sorted out pictures of different instruments and placed them on the correct family board. Miss H asked questions about how the sound is made for each instrument – is it plucking, blowing or banging?
Our main task for this lesson was to listen to different pieces of music, and then try and correctly identify which instruments of the orchestra we could hear. Some of the choices of music contained only one instrument; others contained a selection. Most students were able to correctly isolate each instrument and identify when it was being played.
