Year 10 Energy Changes Science Research

9

Year 10 have continued with their science learning looking at changing energy sources. The students learnt during the spring term about electrical conductors. Our work for the summer term has now taken this a stage further to see how energy is made.

A number of different situations were looked at by the students. These included a person climbing a mountain, sunlight and an arrow being fired. Each pupil then had to think about how the energy has changed for each of these sequences.

All class members are now familiar with different energy forms such as light, chemical, heat, kinetic, sound and gravitational. Electrical energy was identified as the most useful energy as it can change into different forms.

The session ended with a practical experiment of a firework being set off by Miss McNie. The pupils were able to correctly identify the energy changes taking place: chemical, light, heat and kinetic.
