Year 11 Prepare for GCSE and Entry Level Art Exams

7

The Year 11 students at Lansdowne School have started preparation for their GCSE and Entry Level Art exams. One of the key themes on the syllabus this year is art that displays a close up of an image.

Our early preparations have involved looking at the work of the artist Georgia O’Keeffe. She is well known for her close up paintings of flowers that also resemble landscapes. The students have each selected an O’Keeffe painting, and then used this as the inspiration to create their own close up of a flower.

It is with a perfect sense of timing that the Tate Modern at Bankside is currently staging an O’Keeffe exhibition. The Year 11 students will be visiting the exhibition before half term to help them with their GCSE and Entry Level artwork.

The pupils will be sketching at the Tate Modern, and bringing back to Lansdowne School some ideas to help them with their own coursework. This will lead to the students then selecting their own subject matter that they work on as part of the close up requirements for the exams.
