Year 7 English Autobiographical Work

8

Our autumn term English learning in Year 7 at Lansdowne School has helped the pupils to find out a little more about themselves, and their new class friends. Miss Cook has introduced the pupils to the idea of an autobiography. We have looked at what makes this type of writing unique, as well as thinking about the information that might be used.

Plenty of work has been completed by the Year 7 pupils based around their own life memories and experiences so far. Some of the students have very kindly brought in some old photographs from home. These have been placed in a timeline, with the Year 7 students then writing a short description of each photo.

Current information for each class member has also been produced. This includes our height and weight, as well as some subjective information about what we like and don’t like. Acrostic poems have been produced. Each letter in our names has been matched with a word that describes our unique personalities.

Another aspect to our autobiographical work has been to recognise the past and the present. The pupils have been speaking about their memories, and then distinguishing them from their current lives. This has been a fantastic topic that has helped the new Year 7 pupils to also learn a little more about each other.

You can listen to a couple of the Year 7 pupils sharing their work in the recording below.
