Humanities work in Year 10 has seen the students design and build model Spitfires. Our World War Two research has involved learning how these were used during the Battle of Britain.
This session started with a brainstorming exercise. The pupils pooled their knowledge about what we already know about Spitfires. Contributions were made about the design and functions.
The practical exercise helped to develop the motor skills of the pupils. Some very careful cutting was required. The framework for the Spitfires was then stuck on to some card.
Each pupil was then asked to decorate their planes with a suitable colour scheme. The next stage will be to add in extra detail such as the propellors and engine. The planes will also be able to glide through the air!
