Year 10 have been using various skills and equipment to make a desert during food tech lessons. A tasty carrot cake was on the menu during a recent session. This coincided with the birthday of one class member. We decided to make this an extra special birthday carrot cake.
Class teacher Mr Evans explained how baking cakes can take a lot of time. Year 10 were instructed to work on a tight schedule. It was important that each stage was completed on time so that the carrot cakes could be taken home to enjoy.
Three key skills were the focus: measuring, beating and teamwork. The pupils worked with a partner following the recipe sheet they were given. Each group finished on schedule. The end result were some gorgeous carrot cakes to share with family and friends.
