Year 7 World Music Tour Looks at Reggae

Year 7 have been continuing with their world music tour. We have finished our Latin America research and have now moved on to learn about the music of the Caribbean.

We have started this work with an introduction to ska, rock steady and reggae music. Year 7 completed a worksheet that described how Jamaican music has changed over time.

Some popular Jamaican songs were played. The pupils were asked to name the first instrument they could hear as well as any other instruments. Finally the students were asked to describe how each song made them feel.

This work has also involved Year 7 playing some reggae drum rhythms on the school djembe drums. We listened to the beats in some reggae songs, and then played these out on the school drums.
