Year 10 Start New Science Electricity and Magnets Topic

Year 10 have started a new science topic for the summer term. The students will be researching electricity and magnets in great detail. We will be looking at how electricity is made and what we use it for. Practical learning will take place such as how to wire a plug.

Science teacher Miss McNie has many experiments planned. We will be working out how many blades are needed to power a wind turbine. Another experiment will involve the students making their own electro magnet.

Our early electricity learning started with a class discussion. The students were asked to explain where electricity comes from, and who pays for it. This led to the connection between electricity and fossil fuels.

Year 10 were then asked to consider what might happen when the available fossil fuels run out. The students will be looking at renewable energy such as wind power, hydro power and solar power.
