Food Tech work in Year 8 this half term has involved the pupils looking at what is meant by dietary requirements. We have seen how some people might need to avoid particular food types for health reasons. Other groups might not eat a certain food for religious reasons.
Each week the pupils have been preparing a different dish that is designed for a particular food requirement. A recent lesson led to a delicious banana bread loaf being baked. We have seen how this might be suitable for someone who has a nut allergy.
Each class member was expected to work independently and follow their recipe sheet. They were responsible for finding their own equipment and making the correct measurements.
Some of the skills used involved being able to crack an egg, plus using the electric whisks safely. The end result was a beautiful looking banana bread for each class member to share at home.
