Year 13 Step Up to English Exam Preparation

The Year 13 students have been taking part in their Step Up to English exams. The aim is to help the students to develop English skills that they can then use in a work or training situation.

Some of the exam requirements involve information extraction. The students are asked to look for ideas in a piece of writing, and then use this to answer questions. Short story writing and using language to create feelings are others challenges.

Class teacher Miss Moorhouse has been helping the students to prepare for their exams with various writing tasks. We have had a strong focus on the use of verbs and adverbs.

The class members looked at a strange picture of an old lady speaking to a young girl and boy. The students wrote strong adjectives to describe the characters and the scene. This information was then used to wrote a unique short story.
