Year 13 Expressive Arts and the Learning the Ukulele

The Year 13 students are using their expressive arts sessions to explore new musical instruments. We started this topic by naming our favourite instruments. This led to favourite songs also being discussed and an explanation about what we like about them.

The class members have also considered the benefits of learning to play an instrument. Music teacher Mr Gratton then asked each student which one song they would like to learn to play on the ukulele.

Some brief theory took place. The class members labelled each body part on the ukulele. An explanation was provided how they all work together to form the sound.

The practical part of our expressive arts saw each student learning some ukulele basics. Mr Gratton helped the pupils to play four note chords. C and G chords were the focus. The students were encouraged to explore strumming patterns.
