The 2019 Lansdowne School Leavers Assembly was an emotional and celebratory occasion! The whole school came together to say goodbye to our brilliant Year 13 students. We also remembered the many highlights that they have provided over the past seven years.
Executive Head Teacher Mrs Adams opened the assembly by welcoming the many parents and carers that came along to show their support.
Class 7KW prepared a short video about our local Stockwell community to remind everyone why it is so important to be proud of our local roots. The pupils have worked with our friends at Chocolate Films to produce a short film shot on location around our Stockwell.
The Lansdowne Choir then entertained everyone by singing and signing Three Little Birds and Waving flag. It was great to see many of the parents joining in!
Mrs Adams delivered a powerful speech reflecting on the achievements of the Year 13 students and the next stage of their journey.
She mentioned it is with great sadness that the students are moving on. These were the first pupils that many staff members worked with when they first started teaching at Lansdowne.
The old school building was remembered by Mrs Adams. We heard how the Year 13 students managed to learn in a very demanding setting before our brilliant new school was built. Parents and carers were thanked for believing in the school and what could be achieved.
It was also mentioned how mature the students were during the construction period when space was limited. The outcome is a school building that matches the ambition of everyone in our school.
Finally Mrs Adams spoke about the vision and ethos of Lansdowne School. We believe passionately that Lansdowne students have the same opportunities as every other student in Lambeth:
“You leave us as independent young people in the community. You have proudly represented Lansdowne School in sixty local organisations and businesses as part of our work experience programme. We are so very proud of you all. We will miss the support from your parents and carers.”
A fantastic short video was played showing many of the fun moments featuring the students from Year 7 to Year 13. The atmosphere then became a little emotional with the leaving speeches.
These started with a beautiful farewell and thank you speech from a Year 12 student who will miss his friends. Each leaver was then called to the front of the assembly, one by one. Teaching staff delivered a very honest appraisal of their memories for each student.
A very special leaving book was presented to each student. This hardback edition was produced by staff member Aga. It contains many photographs celebrating some wonderful memories.
It was then time to party! The whole school headed out into the summer sun for a brilliant BBQ. Grill Master Uzo returned once more to work his magic on the BBQ. This was a great occasion for our school to come together.
We would like to thank the many parents and carers who were able to come along and offer their support. It was a wonderful surprise to see ex-students Troy and Pedro also attend and share news of their exciting new careers.
Farewell Year 13.
We shall miss you all so much!
