A selection of Year 7 and Year 8 pupils recently enjoyed a trip to the South London Gallery to see an exhibition by the artist Susan Cianciolo. One of the aims of the trip was for the students to experience artwork in a contemporary local gallery in our community.
The exhibition is called God Life: Modern House on Land Outside Game Table. Don’t be fooled by the name! The subject matter shows Cianciolo with her young daughter exploring domestic life.
The students had a guided tour of the South London Gallery space. We spoke beforehand about what we might expect to see, and how to behave in a public art space.
A workshop then followed. Year 7 and Year 8 had the opportunity to draw images based around the exhibition. They also created the design for a personalised costume for a friend using different materials. This fits in with our Year 7 and Year 8 Art and Textiles learning.
