The Year 9 pupils are making good progress as part of their phonics learning. This takes place each morning during tutorial time.
Each new phonic sound is then used to support some written work. The students complete a short comprehension exercise containing the new sound. They are then asked to write five sentences that include each phonic.
The pupils also visit the school library during their tutorial time. They are given a free choice of which books to read.
One-on-one reading with an adult is supported during tutorials. It is good to hear some confident reading from the Year 9 students.
