Lansdowne Pupils Light Up Squire and Partners in Brixton

Students from Class 8VP and 9LT attended the lighting up ceremony for the Winter Windows 2019 display at Squire and Partners. Sixteen pupils worked with the architects to design the festive lights for the flagship Brixton business.

This project started with a workshop held at Lansdowne School earlier in the term. The students were asked to think about emotions such as excitement, light or cold. These are feelings that we experience around this time of year.

Further sessions followed, including a site visit to the nearby Squire and Partners along Ferndale Road. Our work developed to include the themes of light and the human body.

Some professional model makers at Squire and Partners also kindly volunteered their time. The pupils worked with pipe cleaners to show their ideas for the prestigious Winter Windows display.

Judges at the architects practise chose eight of the designs to be made into window displays. Pipe cleaners were replaced with stunning neon lights.

The lighting up ceremony was a magical occasion. The students from Class 8VP and 9LT attended the event, along with many proud parents, carers and school staff.

The Deputy Mayor of Lambeth Cllr Philip Normal made a speech reflecting on what a memorable moment this is for the Lansdowne pupils.

Head of School Mr Juckes then spoke about what this project means to our school community:

“Through this partnership, our students had the opportunity to create their own winter light design, inspired by the warmth and support of our community, and proudly watch their creativity come to life in the form of these strands of light.”

The countdown started with the pupils leading the way. The big switch happened and Ferndale Road was lit up with some amazing Lansdowne designs! A fantastic choir from Corpus Christi School sang some beautiful Carols.

Please do visit the Winter Windows 2019 display this Christmas. It makes a strong statement in our community about what we can achieve at Lansdowne School.

We would like to thank the team at Squire and Partners for being so generous with their time and support. Thank you also to the Deputy Mayor for saying some very kind words about our very gifted students.
