Observational Art in Year 9 Looks at Bones

Year 9 are working on some impressive observational art work. Our main subject matter is some replica human bones. These have many details that the students can explore in their drawings.

Two different forms of media are used for the artwork. We are working with drawing in charcoal as well as chalk. White and black paper backgrounds are used to bring out the detail in our work.

The students are fascinated with the different bone structures. We have held class discussions to decide which bones are linked to one another.

This work is an introduction to our Day of the Dead topic. Future lessons will see the Year 9 students designing and making some intricate Day of the Dead masks.
