Year 8 Science Materials Topics

Our science learning in Year 8 is looking at different types of materials. We started this work by looking at the scientist Stephanie Kwolek. She is an American inventor who first came up with the idea of kevlar.

The students have researched what this material is used for. We have seen that is very strong. It is used in fireproof boots, protective gloves and helmets.

The class members have worked independently on completing a fact sheet. They have matched pictures with the words. Some of the higher level students have worked on dictionary definitions.

We are all looking forward to an end of term science trip to the Horniman Museum. This is as a reward for all the hard work the Year 8 pupils have put in this year.

The museum has many artefacts from around the world. We have been researching what we can expect to find on our visit.
