English learning for the Year 9 students is focusing on the book The Boy in the Striped Pyjamas. This is a challenging story with many interesting topics for the pupils to learn.
We usually start each lesson by recapping the story and what we know so far. The pupils are able to explain who the main characters are and how they feel at each stage in the story.
We then explore a new chapter in each lesson. Some of the key speech parts from the plot are read out by the pupils together.
Written work for this text includes writing descriptive sentences. We have also matched words with pictures. We have labelled scenes from the story and answered some comprehension questions.
Another activity has involved looking at identity cards of the main characters. We have filled in some of the missing gaps that help to define the characters.
