Year 13 Students Prepare Chicken Nuggets in Food Tech

The Year 13 students are looking at fats and their functions as part of their food tech learning. Our sessions always start with some written theory. We looked at why having fat in our diet is important, although we also need to moderate this.

It was then time for the practical part of our learning. The Year 13 students set about preparing and cooking some chicken nuggets. One of the key aims was to master the technique of of being able to bread the meat.

It was explained that the key is to be organised. The students were asked to think about what size they wanted their nuggets. If these were too big then they would take too long to cook in the oven. Smaller pieces of chicken might burn.

We worked through a recipe sheet. This involved dusting the chicken pieces in flour. We then dipped them in some egg yolk before adding the breadcrumbs and cheese.

Whilst our chicken nuggets were cooking we prepared some tasty guacamole. All students were encouraged to work independently. We then had a shared class tasting session.
