The Year 7 students at Lansdowne school recently baked some tasty gingerbread biscuits ahead of the Christmas break. We have previously focused on baking bread. We needed similar skills to help bake our festive gingerbread treats.
The first challenge was to create the dough. This involved cracking an egg into our bowl. The pupils are aware of possible food cross contamination. We made sure that we washed our hands after handling the egg.
Flour, sugar, butter, golden syrup, bicarbonate soda and ginger all added into the mixture. The class members were asked the focus on getting the texture of the dough just right. More flour was added if it became a little too sticky.
One of the fun parts of this exercise was to knead the dough. We learnt how to do this whilst making out bread earlier in the term.
Each class member got to choose which shape they would then like to cut out their biscuits with. Once these were baked we decorated them with icing. The final task was for all pupils to take care of their workstation and wash up.
