Croque Monsieur for the Year 13 Gourmet Chefs!

Some of the Year 13 students have aspirations to become gourmet chefs! This led to a specific menu choice during a recent food tech session. The pupils were asked to prepare croque monsieur.

We started the session by learning that this particular dish is a very fancy sandwich. We focused on the importance of following step-by-step instructions on the recipe sheet.

The first task was to prepare the sauce. This was a delicate balance to make sure that there were no lumps as we added a little milk and flour. The students were introduced to the idea of consistency in their sauce.

We then prepared the croque monsieur and the various layers it contains. These include the sauce, cheese, mustard and ham.

Once this was complete, we then fried it very lightly. Students were asked to judge when their food was golden brown.

Our lesson ended with a tasting session. The Year 13 students were able to prepare some very professional looking croque monsieur.
