Daily Guided Reading Sessions in Year 11

We’re focusing on handwriting and improving our vocabulary in Year 11 guided reading lessons this term. These sessions take place first thing each morning.

Students are working on feeling confident in using joined up handwriting. They are introduced to two new words each day.

The next task is to create a short sentence using each word. We use the dictionaries to help with this learning.

Other table work then follows. Different activities are prepared for each class member to help them meet their own individual learning aims.

Some students are predicting what might happen in a story they are reading. Another activity has involved creating a mind map with adjectives based around a picture.

One of the higher ability students is writing his own short story during guided reading time. He has taken his inspiration from a new picture each week. The story includes a title, an introduction as well as some planning about how the plot might develop.
