Head of School Mr Jukes welcome the Lansdowne School Council back for their first meeting following the half term break. Each Councillor was encouraged to share some short updates on what they achieved over the half term holiday. We heard about family barbecues, a trip to the country and a trip to Westminster.
Mr Juckes then confirmed that the school Head Girl and Boy will shortly be making a trip to the nearby Brixton Soup Kitchen. Lansdowne School is supportive of our friends at the Soup Kitchen. They carry out some great work helping everyone within our community.
Individual Councillors were then invited to put forward any thoughts or ideas for the summer term ahead. Class 7PM are looking forward to a trip to the Dulwich Picture Gallery. They are going to see a show based on Alice in Wonderland. They also have a trip planned to the Van Gogh immersive exhibition.
Some Year 13 students are looking forward to a fun session at the Gravity experience. This will involve electric go-karting, bowling and gaming. This trip has been planned as reward all the hard work the students have carried out this year.
School Council then heard some feedback about recent PE lessons. The Year 7 students are enjoying their swimming sessions each week.
Mr Jukes commented on the recent parents’ evening. This was for Year 10 and Year 11 students. It was mentioned it was good to see a great turnout, and a good opportunity for parents and carers to meet and greet school staff.
School Council came to close with the Councillors being asked what is the best thing about being back at Lansdowne School. We heard how some students have enjoyed PE. Other Councillors were happy to be back in their lessons, as well as being able to see their friends again.
Finally we heard some excitement ahead of the after-school clubs which continue each Tuesday and Thursday. Mr Juckes confirmed that planning is taking place for further work experience placements, as well as Sports Day towards the end of the term.
