Year 10 have been approaching their recent literacy work with a tremendous level of thought and concentration. We have started to read John Steinbeck’s classic Of Mice and Men. This is an incredibly complex piece of text that is built up around the relationships between some of the main characters.
As well as reading each chapter and thinking about the themes, Year 10 are simultaneously watching a DVD interpretation of the book. We have set the students the aim of researching information from different sources such as film and print. Expressing our written work in full and complete sentences is another strong focus for the Year 10 students this term.
The motivations for each character has formed the early basis for our written work. Year 10 have been thinking about the relationship between Lenny and George, and how they are dependent upon one another. We are keeping a regular diary log in our literacy books, updating each time when we learn some new information about the main characters.
